 The Herbal and Healing Clinic offers effective testing for allergies using applied kinesiology – a non-invasive technique using muscle testing. This is simple and safe, involves no discomfort for the patient and can be used with children and the elderly. The results are immediate and can be discussed with the patient.
It can be applied to any substance to which the patient shows sensitivity whether it is a food, inhalant, pollen, hair, dust, chemical or additive. Some sensitivities are hidden, but may be revealed by testing.
Treatment is by desensitisation using unique remedies developed by the British Institute of Allergy and Environmental Therapy. Isopathic (homoeopathic) remedies are used together with herbal and nutritional supplements. These techniques have been developed over the last twenty years at the Institute.
Allergies can be caused and triggered by a number of factors including high levels of stress or inherited malfunction of the immune system. The allergic response is inflammatory and symptoms appear in target areas such as the skin, lungs and eyes, but may also appear in muscles, joints and the brain.
Mainstream medicine mainly detects Type 1 (Antigen/antibody) reactions and when the allergy is of this type its symptoms are treated with antihistamine, steroid and other drugs. In many cases of allergy, often called intolerance or sensitivity, these drugs are of little use.
For many therapists the only treatment on offer is avoidance of the suspected allergen. This is fine if the offending substance happens to be lobster for example, but if it is an additive, preservative, food colouring, wheat or soya product, it is more difficult to avoid. The allergen may be something unavoidable like pollen, car exhaust fumes, house dust mites or formaldehyde. Densensitisation would then be preferable.
Candida is often found to be a problem in patients and this is routinely tested for, as is the thyroid gland and the liver. Any deficiencies here are treated with homoeopathic, herbal and supplement remedies before and alongside the desensitisation.
